China Vows to Deepen Cooperation with Latin America for Mutual Prosperity

China has pledged to enhance solidarity and cooperation with Latin American countries, aiming to bring greater fulfillment and happiness to the people on both sides, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.

At a recent press briefing, Lin highlighted the success story of Peruvian craftsman Oswaldo Mamani, whose handcrafted alpaca toys, known as “warmpaca,” have become a sensation at this year’s China International Import Expo (CIIE). Once operating from a modest one-story workshop with annual sales of just over 100 items, Mamani’s business has expanded to a three-story facility employing hundreds of craftsmen.

In an interview, Mamani expressed his gratitude, stating, “China is a blessing for me and my fellow villagers because it has enabled us to earn more income and live better lives.”

“China and Latin America have always prioritized major livelihood projects in their cooperation,” Lin noted. “The list of uplifting and touching stories, such as that of warmpaca, goes on and on.”

Lin also mentioned the Belo Monte ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission project in Brazil, which serves as an “electricity expressway” linking the north and south of the country. This project has not only provided ample power to industrial hubs but has also resolved power shortages for over 22 million Brazilians.

Additionally, China has implemented numerous small-scale beneficial projects in Latin America. Among them are China-aided water supply initiatives in two cities in Costa Rica, which have positively impacted local communities and boosted the economy.

“China will follow the principle of sincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith, along with pursuing greater good and shared interests,” Lin emphasized. “Focusing on people’s livelihoods, which is a priority in our relations with Latin America, we will continue to enhance solidarity and cooperation with Latin American countries and bring a stronger sense of fulfillment and happiness to the peoples of both sides.”
