In a significant move to bolster regional security, China and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing law-enforcement and security cooperation. The 9th meeting of the China-Russia law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism was held in Beijing on Wednesday, marking a milestone in the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Chen Wenqing, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, co-chaired the meeting with Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council. Both leaders emphasized the importance of their countries' collaboration in maintaining regional stability and addressing global security challenges.
"In recent years, leaders of our two countries have reached a series of important consensuses on developing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era," Chen stated. "Bilateral relations have continued to develop at a high level."
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia. Chen highlighted that China is ready to work with Russia to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and to push for the steady and long-term development of China-Russia relations.
Since the establishment of the China-Russia law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism 11 years ago, the relevant departments of both countries have cooperated closely in safeguarding political security, combating terrorism, and providing judicial assistance. "We have achieved many practical results," Chen noted.
Looking ahead, China is willing to deepen strategic communication with Russia, promote close coordination between departments, and work together in safeguarding political security, cybersecurity, the security of the Belt and Road Initiative, and combating transnational crimes. "This collaboration will better ensure the overall development and stability of our two countries," Chen added.
Shoigu echoed Chen's sentiments, stating that Russia is willing to comprehensively advance security and law-enforcement cooperation with China to better safeguard the security interests of both countries.
The strengthened cooperation between China and Russia in law enforcement and security underscores the deepening ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to regional and global stability.
