Portuguese Edition of Xi Jinping’s ‘Up and Out of Poverty’ Launched in Brazil

In a significant cultural exchange, the Portuguese edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s book on poverty alleviation, “Up and Out of Poverty“, was launched on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event marked a milestone in Sino-Brazilian relations, drawing over 300 representatives from both nations to celebrate the publication and participate in a seminar on state governance.

Marcio Pochmann, president of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, highlighted the book’s practical approach to combating poverty. “This book provides concrete strategies in the fight against poverty and offers experiences that can serve as a global reference,” he remarked.

Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, a Brazilian professor of international law, emphasized the significance of the publication for Brazil. “The release of this book in Brazil allows us to understand how President Xi Jinping, during his leadership in a small city in Fujian Province, collaborated with the local people to find solutions for poverty alleviation,” he said. “It brings a wealth of experiences and wisdom that can greatly inspire other countries, including Brazil, facing similar poverty challenges.”

Henrique Nobrega, president of the Brazil-China Friendship Association, underscored the importance of the book in addressing ongoing poverty issues. “The significance of this book is a milestone for us to reflect on the poverty problems we still face today,” he stated. Nobrega added that China serves as a valuable example in poverty reduction, suggesting that Brazil could adopt China’s policies and exchange experiences and technologies to implement its own strategies to overcome poverty.

Up and Out of Poverty is a collection of President Xi’s speeches, articles, and photographs from 1988 to 1990, during his tenure as the Party chief of Ningde City in China’s Fujian Province. The book has been published globally in nine foreign languages, with Portuguese being the latest edition.
