Beijing, China—In a strategic move to bolster economic recovery and address the challenges of an aging population, Chinese Premier Li Qiang presided over a State Council executive meeting on Friday. The meeting adopted a series of policy measures aimed at promoting steady growth in foreign trade and deepening reforms in the development of elderly care services.
Enhancing Foreign Trade
The council outlined comprehensive strategies to strengthen financial support for enterprises, particularly small and micro-sized businesses. Key measures include fully utilizing policy support loans and optimizing cross-border trade settlements to help companies effectively manage exchange rate risks.
Efforts to promote the development of cross-border e-commerce were emphasized, alongside the establishment of overseas smart logistics platforms. The meeting encouraged the expansion of green trade and trade activities in border regions, as well as the enhancement of repair services for overseas goods in comprehensive bonded zones. Additionally, China will continue negotiations with more countries to sign mutual visa-free treaties, facilitating smoother international trade and business travel.
Advancing Elderly Care Services
Addressing the needs of its aging society, the council stressed the importance of implementing the policies of the Communist Party of China Central Committee to develop the elderly care services industry. Initiatives include strengthening basic elderly care services and enhancing personnel training.
Targeted services such as assisted dining and bathing are planned for senior citizens, especially those at an advanced age or living alone. The meeting also called for greater efforts to develop the silver economy, tapping into the potential of elderly care consumption to expand domestic demand.
By focusing on these dual objectives, China aims to ensure that the elderly are well provided for and can enjoy fulfilling lives while reinforcing the nation’s economic resilience and growth.
