China Gears Up for Historic National Games Co-Hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao

With just one year remaining until the 15th China National Games, the Chinese mainland is gearing up for a historic and environmentally friendly showcase event.

Scheduled from November 9 to 21, 2025, this edition of the National Games will be unprecedented as Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao co-host the event for the first time. The Games, held every four years, represent the highest level and largest national multi-sport event in China.

The 2025 Games will feature 34 major events and 401 smaller competitions. Notably, the men’s road cycling individual trial will connect Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, while the marathon will link Shenzhen and Hong Kong, symbolizing unity and collaboration across the regions.

Preparations are well underway. Guangzhou and Shenzhen have completed drafts for the opening and closing ceremonies, while designs for the torch relay, logo collection, and transportation arrangements are progressing smoothly. Volunteer recruitment began this month, with training set to commence in January.

Organizers are emphasizing a commitment to sustainability. “We are implementing the idea of energy conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable development throughout the entire process of hosting the Games,” stated Cui Jian, Vice Chief of the Guangdong Competition Zone Executive Committee. “We are reconstructing existing stadiums to make them green and low-carbon, all set to be in use by March. Additionally, we are focusing on the post-Games utilization of venues, considering the demands of national fitness.”

To mark the one-year countdown, an event will be held at the Asian Games Park in Guangzhou on Saturday night, celebrating the progress and building anticipation for the upcoming Games.
