Ancient Wisdom Connects China and the West at Inaugural World Conference

The inaugural World Conference of Classics, co-hosted by China and Greece, was held in Beijing from November 6 to 8. Under the theme “Classical Civilizations and the Modern World,” the conference brought together more than 400 scholars from over 30 countries and regions.

Scholars and experts gathered to delve into the rich legacies of ancient civilizations and explore their significance in today’s rapidly changing world. Discussions centered on how the wisdom gleaned from classical civilizations can address modern challenges and contribute to a deeper understanding between cultures.

“The conference serves as a bridge connecting the profound heritage of the East and the West,” said Professor Li Ming, a renowned historian from the Chinese mainland. “By revisiting our classical roots, we find common ground that can inspire solutions to contemporary issues.”

Participants engaged in a variety of panels and workshops covering topics such as philosophy, literature, art, and the influence of ancient thought on modern society. The event emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and mutual learning in fostering global harmony.

Greek scholar Dr. Elena Papadopoulos highlighted the shared values between ancient Greek and Chinese civilizations. “Despite the geographical distance, our classical cultures share profound insights into humanity, ethics, and the pursuit of knowledge,” she remarked.

The conference also featured exhibitions showcasing historical artifacts, manuscripts, and interactive sessions aimed at bringing ancient texts to life. Organizers expressed hope that the event would become a regular platform for international dialogue on classical studies.

“In a world facing unprecedented challenges, turning to the wisdom of our ancestors can offer guidance and inspiration,” concluded Professor Li. “This conference is just the beginning of a renewed global appreciation for classical civilizations.”
