Six Chinese Paddlers Advance to WTT Champions Frankfurt Quarterfinals

Six Chinese table tennis players have surged into the quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Frankfurt, showcasing dominance in both the women’s and men’s singles events in Frankfurt, Germany.

In the women’s singles, top-seeded Wang Manyu overcame South Korea’s Joo Cheon-hui with a scoreline of 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8. Wang is set to face compatriot Qian Tianyi next, who impressively swept past Japan’s fifth seed, Mima Ito, 11-3, 11-1, 12-10.

“I haven’t played Qian for a long time,” Wang shared after her match. “She has been in great form and performing well recently. I must prepare myself for a tough battle.”

Wildcard entrant He Zhuojia caused an upset by defeating sixth seed Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei with a convincing 11-4, 11-6, 12-10 victory. She’s poised to challenge another seeded opponent, Japan’s third seed Miwa Harimoto, in the next round.

Second seed Wang Yidi secured her spot in the quarterfinals by dispatching Romanian veteran Elizabeta Samara 11-6, 11-5, 11-8. Wang will compete against South Korea’s seventh seed, Shin Yu-bin, for a place in the semifinals.

The final women’s quarterfinal matchup will feature Chinese fourth seed Chen Xingtong against Japan’s eighth seed Satsuki Odo, promising an exciting clash of talents.

On the men’s side, Lin Shidong stands as the sole Chinese player advancing to the quarterfinals. Lin defeated Germany’s Benedikt Duda 11-4, 11-9, 11-7, and will face Japan’s Sora Matsushima in the next stage.

The Chinese paddlers’ impressive performances have set the stage for thrilling matches ahead as they continue their quest for championship glory in Frankfurt.
