Putin Highlights Unprecedented Russia-China Cooperation, Not Aimed at Any Third Party

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented level of mutual trust and cooperation, emphasizing that their partnership is not directed against any third party, including the United States.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club’s annual meeting on Thursday, Putin addressed questions regarding the evolving relationship between Russia and China. He underscored that the strong foundation of mutual trust has elevated their bilateral ties to new heights, fostering collaboration across various sectors such as energy and high technology.

“Our cooperation is based on a solid foundation of mutual benefit and is not aimed at countering any other country,” Putin stated. “The primary goal is to support our national development and ensure the safety and security of our people.”

Highlighting the significance of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Putin noted that it aligns with the interests of both nations. He emphasized that a stable political and economic environment in Central Asia serves Russia’s strategic interests, and that there is no competition between Russia and China in the region—only cooperation.

Putin also addressed the increasing tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, attributing them to provocations by the West, including NATO’s actions and regular U.S.-Japan military drills. He asserted that the joint military exercises conducted by Russia and China are focused on safeguarding their own security and do not pose a threat to East Asia.

“The growing cooperation between Russia and China contributes to regional and global stability,” he affirmed.

Regarding the Taiwan region, Putin criticized it for escalating tensions in the Asia-Pacific to attract outside support. He expressed firm support for the one-China policy, reinforcing Russia’s stance on the matter.

Concluding his remarks, Putin reiterated that Russia is not aligning with any nation to oppose another. Instead, the strengthening of Russia-China relations is aimed at fostering mutual development and contributing positively to the global community.
