China has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a shared future within the Asia-Pacific region, emphasizing enhanced cooperation and economic integration among member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). As one of the dynamic engines of global economic growth, APEC continues to play a pivotal role in promoting trade and investment facilitation across the region.
Established over three decades ago, APEC has grown into a significant forum representing approximately 62 percent of the world’s GDP and nearly half of global trade. China’s active participation in APEC has been instrumental in boosting regional economic collaboration. In 2022, China’s foreign trade with other APEC economies amounted to $3.74 trillion, accounting for 59.7 percent of the country’s total import and export value, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
“China attaches great importance to Asia-Pacific economic cooperation,” said a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. “We are committed to working with all APEC members to promote an open, inclusive, and sustainable regional economy.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which will be hosted by Peru in 2024, China is expected to play a significant role in discussions focusing on economic recovery, digital transformation, and sustainable development. The event provides a platform for leaders to address pressing challenges and explore opportunities for mutual growth.
China’s engagement in APEC reflects its broader strategy to strengthen ties within the Asia-Pacific region. Through initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity and supporting multilateral trade systems, China seeks to contribute to the stability and prosperity of the region.
As the global economy faces uncertainties, China’s pledge for deeper cooperation underscores the importance of unity and collective action in building a resilient Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
