Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for efforts to promote high-quality development of social work, emphasizing its vital role in fostering national harmony and stability. In a recent instruction read at a central conference on social work held in Beijing, Xi highlighted the importance of advancing social governance under socialism with Chinese characteristics.
“Social work is crucial to the Party’s long-term governance, the country’s enduring peace and stability, as well as the well-being of the people,” Xi stated. He pointed out that China’s social structure is undergoing profound changes with the rapid development of emerging sectors, calling for new achievements to address the evolving landscape.
Xi underscored the necessity of strengthening Party building in new types of economic and social organizations and among groups in new forms of employment. By enhancing the Party’s influence, cohesion, and appeal in emerging fields, he believes that the leading role of Party building in community-level governance can be fully realized.
The conference, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, was attended by Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. Cai delivered a speech, urging adherence to Xi’s instructions as guidance for developing social work.
“We must prioritize Party building in emerging sectors and expand the reach of Party organizations,” Cai emphasized. He called for concerted efforts to unite and serve the people, stressing the importance of strengthening leadership in social work at various levels through reform and innovation.
Cai’s remarks highlighted the significance of adapting to social changes and fostering high-quality development in social work. “By enhancing the effectiveness of social governance, we can contribute to social harmony and stability,” he concluded.
