Kunming, Yunnan Province — In a significant meeting during the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion Summit on November 6 and 7, Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the importance of Myanmar in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. Meeting with Myanmar’s leader Min Aung Hlaing, Premier Li reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Myanmar in choosing a development path suited to its national conditions.
“China has always placed its relations with Myanmar at an important position in China’s neighborhood diplomacy,” Li stated. “We stand ready to work with Myanmar to steadily advance the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor under the framework of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.”
Premier Li called for strengthened cooperation in education, culture, and tourism, and for enhanced local exchanges between the two nations. He highlighted the need to jointly crack down on cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecom fraud. Additionally, he expressed hope that Myanmar would ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects within its borders.
Min Aung Hlaing expressed gratitude for China’s valuable assistance in Myanmar’s economic and social development and in responding to natural disasters. He appreciated China’s positive role in promoting peace and reconciliation in Myanmar. “We will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects,” he assured.
Looking ahead to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year, Min Aung Hlaing expressed a desire to consolidate bilateral friendship. He emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, investment, agriculture, poverty reduction, and people’s livelihoods.
This meeting signifies a continued strengthening of the partnership between China and Myanmar, underscoring mutual commitments to regional stability and development.
