Top Seeds Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu Advance at WTT Champions Frankfurt

World No. 1 Wang Chuqin of China commenced his campaign at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Frankfurt with a commanding 3-0 victory over Shunsuke Togami of Japan on Monday in Frankfurt, Germany.

In the men’s singles first round, Togami presented a significant challenge to Wang in the opening game with his rapid attacks, pushing the score to a tense 9-9. However, Wang showcased resilience to clinch the game 12-10, taking a 1-0 lead.

Wang’s sharp serves dominated the second game, allowing him to secure an 11-3 win swiftly. The third game intensified as both players vied for ascendancy. Togami, trailing 14-13, launched a series of forehand attacks, but Wang’s composure led him to a 16-14 victory, sealing the match at 3-0. He will face Anton Kallberg of Sweden in the round of 16.

In the women’s singles, top seed Wang Manyu of China overcame Orawan Paranang of Thailand 11-9, 11-5, 11-13, 11-6 to secure her place in the last 16.

Wang Manyu controlled the rhythm in the first two games, securing comfortable wins. Paranang fought back in the third game, capitalizing on several errors by Wang to take the game 13-11. Undeterred, Wang regained her momentum in the fourth game, overcoming Paranang’s sharp plays to win 11-6 and close out the match.

Wang Manyu will next compete against Joo Cheon-hui of the Republic of Korea in the subsequent round.
