Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Chair 8th Greater Mekong Subregion Summit

Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to chair the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit in Kunming, southwest China’s Yunnan Province, from November 6 to 7. The summit brings together China and the five other Mekong countries—Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam—to discuss regional cooperation and development.

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, leaders from the five Mekong countries will attend the summit, reaffirming their commitment to fostering collaboration within the region. Masatsugu Asakawa, president of the Asian Development Bank, will also be in attendance, highlighting the summit’s significance in advancing economic development and connectivity.

The GMS Summit serves as a vital platform for dialogue among member countries, focusing on areas such as infrastructure development, trade facilitation, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. The upcoming meeting is expected to further strengthen ties and promote shared prosperity within the Greater Mekong Subregion.
