China and Japan Hold High-Level Talks to Enhance Bilateral Relations

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties, China's top diplomat Wang Yi met with Takeo Akiba, secretary general of Japan's National Security Secretariat, in Beijing on Monday. The consultations were held under the China-Japan high-level political dialogue mechanism, marking a critical stage in the improvement of relations between the two neighboring countries.

Wang Yi, who serves as the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and is a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized the importance of adhering to the consensus reached by the leaders of both nations. He called for both sides to maintain the correct direction in improving and developing their bilateral relationship, aiming to build a constructive and stable partnership that aligns with the demands of the new era.

Highlighting key issues, Wang urged the Japanese side to establish an objective and rational understanding of China. He stressed the importance of Japan honoring its political commitment to the Taiwan question and safeguarding the political foundation of China-Japan relations. Wang called on Japan to take concrete actions to implement the consensus of "being each other's cooperation partners rather than threats," promoting the steady and long-term development of their bilateral ties.

The meeting signals a mutual interest in enhancing cooperation and addressing challenges in the region. As both countries navigate complex international dynamics, such dialogues are crucial for fostering mutual understanding and advancing shared interests.
