China Affirms Unstoppable Global Support for One-China Principle

China has reiterated that the historical trend of global endorsement of the one-China principle is unstoppable. Speaking on Monday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, emphasized that 183 countries worldwide have established diplomatic relations with China based on this principle.

In response to comments related to Palau, Mao noted that only a very small number of countries, including Palau, still maintain so-called diplomatic relations with the Taiwan region. She stated that such practices not only contravene the interests of these countries and their people but also violate United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and China’s sovereignty.

“Such practice needs to be corrected,” Mao asserted. She urged these countries to fulfill their obligations under international law, stand on the right side of history, and make decisions that truly serve their fundamental and long-term interests.

Citing the Chinese idiom, “Those who suit their actions to the times are wise,” Mao expressed China’s welcome to people with vision in these countries who recognize the prevailing trend of history and respect China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “It’s never too late to make new friends,” she said, adding that China is ready to open new chapters in relations with these countries on the basis of the one-China principle.
