French Jazz Trio Names Eighth Album ‘88888888’ Inspired by Chinese Culture

The Rémi Panossian Trio, a renowned French jazz band, has drawn inspiration from Chinese culture for their latest album. During their 2023 tour of the Chinese mainland, the trio discovered an unexpected cultural motif that resonated deeply with them.

Staying in hotels across various cities, they noticed that the Wi-Fi password was often set as eight consecutive number eights: “88888888.” Curious about this repetition, they learned that the number eight is considered highly auspicious in Chinese culture, symbolizing wealth and good fortune.

Embracing this cultural significance, and coinciding with the release of their eighth album, the band decided to name their new record “88888888.” They hope that this lucky number will not only bring prosperity to their music but also pay homage to the rich cultural experiences they enjoyed during their tour.

“We were fascinated by how a simple number holds such profound meaning in Chinese society,” the trio shared in an exclusive interview. “Naming our eighth album ‘88888888’ felt like the perfect way to honor the warmth and inspiration we’ve received from our time here.”

The Rémi Panossian Trio’s blend of jazz infused with international influences continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Their latest album stands as a testament to the cross-cultural connections that music can foster, bridging gaps and building understanding through shared artistic expression.
