Chinese Mainland Condemns U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan Region

The Chinese mainland has firmly opposed recent U.S. arms sales to the Taiwan region, stating that such actions undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed the issue at a press briefing on Wednesday.

“We urge the United States to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques,” Zhu said. “The U.S. should desist from arming Taiwan and stop sending wrong signals to separatist forces seeking ‘Taiwan independence.'”

Zhu emphasized that separatist activities advocating for ‘Taiwan independence’ and external interventions cannot alter the irreversible trend of China’s reunification. She reiterated the mainland’s commitment to resolving the Taiwan question and achieving national reunification.

The spokesperson attributed rising tensions and instability in the Taiwan Strait to the Taiwan authorities’ Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). “The DPP’s diehard stance on ‘Taiwan independence’ and its repeated collusion with external forces are the root causes of the current situation,” Zhu asserted.

Despite the challenges, Zhu highlighted the mainland’s efforts to safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. “We have consistently promoted exchanges and deepened cooperation among compatriots across the Taiwan Strait,” she said, stressing the importance of unity and shared development.
