At just 8 years old, Indonesian student Cherish Bleztien has captured the hearts of many with her poetic reflections on China. Her piece, titled “The Unique Things of China,” paints a vivid picture of the country’s rich heritage and natural wonders through the eyes of a child.

“I see you in my eyes, China,” begins Cherish, as she likens the magnificent Great Wall to a timeless guardian winding through the ages. She describes China’s vibrant national flag as “flying high like the eyelids,” and the lush bamboo forests as eyelashes gracing the vast lands.

Delving deeper, Cherish reveals her fascination with China’s profound cultural heritage. “Your rich and profound cultural heritage accumulated and passed down over thousands of years, reflected deeply in my pupils,” she writes. The young poet is particularly mesmerized by the ancient concepts of the yin-yang theory and the symbolism of the twelve zodiac animals.

Her heartfelt words highlight a shared connection: “With the yellow skin and black eyes we share, we see each other, and through my gaze, I discover the unique qualities that define you.” Cherish’s reflections underscore the deep cultural ties and mutual respect between Indonesia and China.

Cherish’s poem resonates beyond her years, offering a fresh perspective on the beauty and cultural significance of China. Her admiration reflects the growing interest among the younger generation in exploring and understanding the rich tapestries of Asian cultures.

As Asia continues to play a dynamic role in global affairs, voices like Cherish’s remind us of the importance of cultural appreciation and the bonds that connect diverse communities across the continent.
