Xinjiang’s 29th Civil Airport Completes Test Flight, Boosts Regional Connectivity

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reached a new milestone in aviation infrastructure as Bayingolin Luntai Airport successfully completed its test flight on March 24, 2026. Chengdu Airlines operated the trial using China's domestically developed C909 aircraft, paving the way for the facility to become the region's 29th civil transport airport.

The 4C-class airport is projected to handle 300,000 passengers annually by 2030, with planned routes connecting Luntai County to major hubs including Urumqi, Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi'an. This development eliminates the county's aviation service gap while strengthening southern Xinjiang's transportation network, particularly benefiting agricultural exports and cultural tourism.
