Kenya-China Forum Advances Zero-Tariff Trade Pact

Nairobi hosted the Kenya-China Business Forum this week, with both nations pledging to deepen economic collaboration through a landmark tariff reduction agreement. The event, held on March 23, 2026, marks a strategic push to expand trade flows and industrial development ahead of the Early Harvest Agreement's implementation on May 1, 2026.

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized China's commitment to "broaden economic and trade cooperation" with Kenya, highlighting agriculture and manufacturing as key sectors. Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki noted the partnership's evolution since 1963, stating:

"Our presence here demonstrates collective policy support to increase trade volume and value between our countries."

The forum specifically outlined duty-free access for Kenyan tea, coffee, and horticultural products to the Chinese mainland market. Business leaders from both sides discussed investment opportunities in renewable energy infrastructure and technology parks across East Africa.
