European Firms Urged to Engage with China’s Ecosystem for Mutual Growth

European businesses should treat China's dynamic market as a 'gym' for innovation and collaboration, according to Luigi Gambardella, president of the ChinaEU Digital Association. Speaking at the 2026 China Development Forum (CDF) in Beijing, Gambardella emphasized the strategic value of integrating with China's rapidly evolving economic ecosystem to strengthen global competitiveness.

The remarks followed a keynote address by the Chinese premier, Li Qiang, who underscored the importance of fostering 'sound competition and mutually beneficial cooperation' between China and international partners. The premier highlighted China's commitment to creating a stable environment for foreign enterprises, particularly in emerging sectors like green technology and digital infrastructure.

This year's CDF, a high-level dialogue platform, has drawn over 1,000 global business leaders and policymakers. Discussions have centered on aligning European expertise with China's industrial modernization goals, with analysts noting growing opportunities in renewable energy and AI-driven manufacturing.

Gambardella pointed to cross-border partnerships in electric vehicle production and 5G applications as models for success. 'The companies thriving here are those willing to adapt while maintaining their core strengths,' he told CGTN, urging European firms to deepen local partnerships rather than pursue isolated strategies.
