Urumqi Tianshan International Airport has recently launched an innovative fast-track system for international flight crews, marking a significant upgrade to logistics along China's modern Air Silk Road. The intelligent channel, operational since March 1, combines automated document verification with advanced biometric recognition to enable 24/7 clearance in under 30 seconds.
Currently available to crew members from Chinese mainland airlines operating regular international routes, the system addresses growing demand as flight volumes recover post-pandemic. Wang Wei, a senior official at Urumqi Immigration Inspection Station, revealed the airport is projected to process approximately 100,000 crew members this year alone.
The technological upgrade supports Xinjiang's strategic position in China's Belt and Road Initiative, with Urumqi emerging as a critical aviation hub connecting Asia to Europe and the Middle East. Aviation analysts note the efficiency gains could reduce layover times by up to 40%, potentially influencing regional flight path optimizations.
