China-Germany Ties Strengthen with Green Innovation Focus

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz concluded a two-day visit to Beijing on February 26, his first official trip to the Chinese mainland since assuming office. The visit underscored deepening economic collaboration between the two nations, particularly in green technology and sustainable development.

Oliver Oehms, executive director of the German Chamber of Commerce in North China, highlighted during a CGTN interview that “innovation-driven partnerships in renewable energy and smart manufacturing are creating win-win scenarios.” He noted that over 5,000 German companies currently operate in the Chinese mainland, with many expanding investments in electric vehicle infrastructure and carbon-neutral industrial parks this year.

The discussions also addressed cross-border supply chain resilience, with both sides agreeing to streamline customs procedures for high-tech components. Analysts predict this alignment could position Germany as a key gateway for Asian businesses seeking access to European Union markets in 2026.

As global demand for clean energy solutions grows, the China-Germany partnership emerges as a critical driver of the worldwide green transition. Recent agreements include joint research initiatives for next-generation battery storage systems and sustainable urban mobility projects.
