UK Firms Bullish on China Amid Starmer’s Landmark Visit

British businesses operating in the Chinese mainland are demonstrating renewed confidence in market opportunities, according to a recent survey by the British Chamber of Commerce in China. Chairman Chris Torrens revealed to CGTN anchor Vivienne Nunis that over 300 surveyed companies expressed optimism about growth prospects, signaling strengthened commercial ties.

The findings coincide with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's ongoing visit to China from January 28-31 – the first by a British leader since 2018. Analysts suggest the timing highlights efforts to revitalize economic cooperation amid shifting global trade dynamics.

"This surge in business confidence reflects the resilience of UK-China commercial relations," Torrens noted, emphasizing technology and green energy sectors as key areas for collaboration. The visit comes as China continues implementing market reforms to attract overseas investors, including those from Britain.
