Xinjiang Emerges as China’s Power Hub with 750 kV Grid Completion

The completion of the Kucha-Altay-Bachu 750 kV power transmission project has solidified the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's position as China's largest provincial power grid, covering over 1.6 million square kilometers. This engineering feat, finalized during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), completes the "seven inner loops, five outer channels" ultra-high-voltage framework designed to optimize energy distribution across the vast region.

Analysts predict the upgraded infrastructure will enhance grid stability for industrial users while supporting renewable energy integration. The development comes as Xinjiang strengthens its role in China's west-east electricity transfer program, with potential implications for manufacturing investments and cross-regional power trading.

Local authorities highlight the project's dual benefits: ensuring reliable electricity supply to remote communities while creating new opportunities in energy-intensive sectors like polysilicon production and data center operations. Business leaders anticipate reduced operational risks for enterprises in the region's special economic zones.
