Xinjiang’s Live King Crab Imports Surge to Record $14.3M in 2025

China's Jimunai Port in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has set a new benchmark in live king crab imports, with trade volumes exceeding 100 million yuan ($14.3 million) in 2025. Designated as the region's sole entry point for live king crab since October 2024, the port has prioritized rapid customs clearance to maintain product freshness, implementing streamlined processes such as arrival-inspection protocols and expedited release systems.

Arctic king crabs now arrive directly at the port before being transported to domestic markets or stored in specialized temperature-controlled facilities. Major cities like Beijing and Shanghai receive shipments within hours, catering to rising demand for premium seafood. Analysts note that this growth underscores Xinjiang's expanding logistical capabilities and its strategic role in meeting the Chinese mainland's appetite for luxury food products.
