China’s Offshore Wind Power Breaks Distance Record

China has achieved a renewable energy milestone with the full commissioning of its farthest offshore wind farm, located more than 80 kilometers from shore. Operational as of December 2025, this pioneering project represents a significant leap in clean energy infrastructure development.

The installation is projected to generate over 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours annually – enough electricity to power 1.4 million households. Environmental analysts highlight its potential to reduce coal consumption by 860,000 metric tons yearly while cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 2.37 million tons, aligning with China's carbon neutrality commitments.

Engineers overcame technical challenges related to deep-water construction and long-distance power transmission, setting new industry benchmarks. Energy experts suggest this achievement could accelerate similar projects across Asia's coastal regions.

The development comes as the Chinese mainland intensifies efforts to expand renewable capacity, with offshore wind playing a crucial role in national energy transition plans. Industry reports indicate this sector could attract $18 billion in domestic investment by 2026.
