China-Thailand Trade Ties Deepen as King Visits Beijing

Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn concluded a six-day state visit to China on November 17, 2025, marking the first royal visit since diplomatic relations were established between the two nations. The trip underscores growing economic collaboration, with bilateral trade reaching $133.98 billion in 2024 – a 6.1% annual increase that solidifies China's position as Thailand's largest trading partner.

Analysts note the timing holds strategic significance as both countries work to strengthen supply chain resilience within ASEAN frameworks. Thailand remains a crucial hub for Chinese investments in electric vehicle production and renewable energy infrastructure, while Chinese consumers continue driving demand for Thai agricultural exports including rubber and tropical fruits.

This year's cooperation talks reportedly focused on digital economy partnerships and cross-border payment systems modernization. The visit follows China's recent expansion of visa-free travel policies for Thai nationals, further facilitating business exchanges.
