China’s CIIE Sets Global Trade Example, Says Singapore Scholar

Singaporean scholar Kishore Mahbubani praised China’s commitment to open markets at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), calling it a "highly positive initiative" that sets a global example. The event, currently underway in Shanghai, remains the world’s sole national-level expo dedicated exclusively to imports as of November 2025.

"China is demonstrating leadership by creating platforms for shared economic growth," Mahbubani told China Media Group during the expo. His remarks highlight the CIIE’s evolving role in advancing Beijing’s dual circulation strategy while fostering international partnerships.

This year’s expo features over 3,500 exhibitors from 145 countries and regions, with renewable energy and AI technologies dominating exhibition spaces. Analysts note the event’s growing emphasis on sustainable development aligns with broader Asian economic priorities.

As global trade faces renewed pressures, the CIIE continues serving as a critical bridge between China’s domestic demand and international suppliers. Recent data shows cross-border e-commerce transactions facilitated through CIIE partnerships grew 18% year-on-year in Q3 2025.
