China’s Agri-Tech Innovations Drive Global Food Security Efforts

Global leaders and experts gathered in Jinan, Shandong Province, this week to address one of humanity's most pressing challenges: ensuring sustainable food systems for a growing population. At the 2025 International Conference on Reducing Food Loss and Waste, China's agricultural technology advancements took center stage as potential game-changers in the fight against hunger.

Dr. Ismahane Elouafi of CGIAR, a global agricultural research partnership, highlighted during discussions with CGTN's Xu Yi that China's precision farming solutions and AI-driven crop management systems are setting new benchmarks for efficiency. The conference showcased smart cold chain logistics reducing post-harvest losses by up to 40% in pilot programs across Southeast Asia.

Key developments discussed included:

  • Drone-based nutrient monitoring systems adopted in 15 countries
  • Blockchain-enabled grain traceability platforms
  • Saltwater-tolerant rice strains developed through Chinese research

With 828 million people facing chronic hunger globally according to UN data, participants emphasized the urgency of scaling these technologies. The Chinese mainland's focus on rural digital infrastructure – connecting 98% of villages to high-speed internet by 2025 – was noted as critical for implementing smart agriculture solutions worldwide.
