China-Northeast Asia Trade Hits $900B in 2024, Expo Set for 2025

China's trade with five Northeast Asian countries surged to $901.6 billion in 2024, marking a 1.6% year-on-year increase and accounting for 15% of the nation's total foreign trade, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. This sustained growth underscores deepening economic integration in the region.

The trade bloc – comprising Russia, Mongolia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Republic of Korea (ROK), and Japan – continues to view China as its largest trading partner. Two-way investment surpassed $7 billion, with Vice Commerce Minister Yan Dong highlighting expansion into digital economy, green development, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Regional collaboration will take center stage at the 15th China-Northeast Asia Expo, scheduled for August 27-31, 2025 in Changchun, Jilin Province. Under the theme "Joining Hands in Northeast Asia for a Shared Future Through Openness," the event aims to foster innovation-driven partnerships across industries.

Analysts note this growth occurs amid global economic uncertainties, positioning Northeast Asia as a stabilizing force. The digital and green energy sectors – particularly solar technology and electric vehicle supply chains – are driving new cross-border investment patterns.
