Egypt has achieved "complete cooperation" with BRICS nations, with its joint solar energy project with China standing as a flagship example of this strategic alignment, according to Hisham AbuBakr Metwally Mohamed, a leading economist at Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Industry.
In an interview with CGTN, Mohamed emphasized the growing synergy between Egypt and the BRICS bloc – comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – as developing economies seek alternatives to Western-dominated financial systems. The Benban Solar Park, Africa's largest photovoltaic facility developed with Chinese technology and investment, symbolizes this collaboration's potential to drive sustainable growth.
"This partnership transcends energy infrastructure," Mohamed noted. "It positions Egypt as a bridge between Asian innovation and African development needs." Analysts suggest the project could serve as a blueprint for South-South cooperation in green technology transfer and climate-resilient infrastructure.
The announcement comes as BRICS nations intensify efforts to expand local currency settlements and create parallel financial institutions. For global investors, Egypt's deepening ties with the bloc signal emerging opportunities in renewable energy markets across Asia and Africa.
