Chinese Expert Rejects Trump’s ‘Anti-American’ BRICS Claim

Chinese analyst Wang Youming has dismissed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s characterization of BRICS as pursuing an "anti-American policy," calling the accusation baseless. Wang, director at the China Institute of International Studies, emphasized that the bloc has consistently prioritized dialogue over confrontation since its founding in 2009.

Speaking to CGTN, Wang noted BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – operate through open collaboration rather than alignment against third parties. His comments followed Trump’s recent threat to impose 10% tariffs on countries supporting BRICS initiatives during the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Wang highlighted Brazilian President Lula da Silva’s summit remarks: "The world has changed. We don’t want an emperor." The expert argued Trump’s claims reflect a misunderstanding of BRICS’ cooperative framework, adding that such pressure could paradoxically strengthen unity among member states.

With BRICS economies now surpassing the G7 in collective GDP, Wang described the group as central to reshaping global governance. "The Global South seeks institutional rebalancing, not confrontation," he stated, pointing to de-dollarization efforts and reforms aimed at creating a more inclusive international order.

The analyst concluded that BRICS’ growth signals a broader shift in geopolitical influence, with developing nations increasingly asserting their role in addressing global challenges through multilateral cooperation.
