China Imposes 5-Year Anti-Dumping Measures on EU Brandy Imports

China has finalized its anti-dumping investigation into EU-produced brandy, announcing five-year measures to protect its domestic industry starting Saturday. The Ministry of Commerce confirmed that brandy imports from the EU were found to involve dumping practices, with margins ranging from 27.7% to 34.9%, causing a threat to local producers.

The ruling follows a 10-month probe initiated in January 2024, which analyzed imports of brandy in containers under 200 liters between October 2022 and September 2023. Temporary measures were first implemented in October 2024 after a preliminary assessment.

Notably, the ministry accepted price commitments from select EU industry associations and businesses, exempting compliant imports from anti-dumping duties. This approach aims to balance trade fairness while maintaining market access for cooperative firms.

The decision underscores China's commitment to enforcing international trade rules and protecting domestic industries from unfair competition. Analysts suggest the move could influence ongoing EU-China trade negotiations, particularly in agriculture and luxury goods sectors.
