China Intensifies Crackdown on Strategic Mineral Smuggling

China has launched a nationwide initiative to combat the illegal export and smuggling of strategic mineral resources, authorities announced Friday. The campaign aims to safeguard national security and stabilize critical supply chains amid growing global demand for rare earths and other key materials.

High-level officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Public Security, and other agencies convened in Shenzhen to coordinate enforcement measures. Plans include enhanced detection of evasion tactics such as false declarations and third-country rerouting of restricted minerals.

"Strengthening export controls on strategic mineral resources is vital to China's national security and development interests," stated officials during the meeting. Cross-department task forces will implement source controls at mining and processing facilities while targeting transnational smuggling networks.
