Economic ties between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) are accelerating at unprecedented rates, with bilateral trade growing at an average annual rate of 8.8% since 2012, according to China's Ministry of Commerce. The partnership has reached new heights in 2024, boasting a record $142.3 billion in total trade—a 6.3% year-on-year increase—with imports from CEEC climbing steadily at 7.4% annually.
Yan Dong, Deputy Head of the ministry, emphasized the 'important opportunities' ahead, particularly in green technology sectors. Chinese investments in CEEC now exceed $24 billion, driven by surging interest in electric vehicle and power battery supply chains. Analysts highlight growing collaborations in advanced manufacturing and renewable energy infrastructure.
The upcoming 4th China-CEEC Expo in Ningbo (May 22-25) will showcase products from 18 participating countries and regions, serving as a key platform for expanding trade and cross-border partnerships. Over 2,700 enterprises are expected to participate, reflecting the partnership's growing global influence.
'Complementary strengths in industrial capacity and digital innovation will unlock new cooperation space,' Yan stated, citing China's ongoing high-level reforms to attract foreign investment. The cooperation framework has already facilitated over 600 joint projects in transportation, agriculture, and tech.
