Audi Doubles Down on China Market with Bold Electric Strategy

Audi’s "in China; for China" strategy took center stage at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, with the German automaker unveiling a dynamic lineup of all-electric vehicles developed through partnerships with local firms. CEO Gernot Dollner emphasized the company’s renewed focus on delivering China-specific innovations, calling the market "a cornerstone of Audi’s global ambitions."

Dollner highlighted collaboration with Chinese tech and manufacturing partners as key to accelerating electrification efforts. "By deepening our roots here, we can better address the unique mobility needs of Chinese consumers," he told CGBATV, referencing tailored vehicle designs and smart mobility solutions in development.

The announcement comes as foreign automakers intensify efforts to compete in China’s rapidly growing EV sector, where domestic brands now command over 60% market share. Analysts suggest Audi’s localization push – including plans to expand R&D facilities in Shenzhen and Chengdu – could help reposition the brand for long-term success.
