Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Sees 70% Surge in Foreign Passengers

Cross-border travel via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has reached new heights, with foreign passenger traffic surging 70% year-on-year at the Zhuhai land port, according to official data. Over 172,000 international passenger trips were recorded this year, underscoring the structure's growing role in global connectivity.

Analysts attribute the spike to China's expanded visa-free policies and the bridge's unique status as the only land port on the Chinese mainland offering direct road access to Hong Kong International Airport. This 'air-to-road' integration allows travelers to quickly transfer between flights and ground transport across the Greater Bay Area.

Overall passenger volume hit 10 million trips 25 days earlier than in 2024, marking an 18.9% annual increase. Mainland resident crossings rose 30.3% to 4.18 million, while Hong Kong and Macao vehicle trips jumped 32.4% to 1.2 million – averaging over 10,000 daily.

The 55-kilometer engineering marvel, connecting Hong Kong SAR, Zhuhai, and Macao SAR, continues to break records as the world's longest bridge-and-tunnel sea crossing. Its evolving traffic patterns reflect both regional integration efforts and China's push to streamline international transit.
