China’s flagship trade exhibitions have become a beacon of global economic optimism, with record-breaking international participation underscoring confidence in Chinese market resilience. The fifth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) in Hainan and the Canton Fair in Guangzhou attracted unprecedented numbers of multinational corporations, buyers, and exhibitors, signaling enduring appeal despite geopolitical complexities.
Unwavering Market Appeal
The Canton Fair drew 64,530 overseas buyers on its opening day – an 8.9% year-on-year spike – with major retailers like Walmart, Carrefour, and Tesco actively sourcing products. Professor Niu Huayong of Beijing Foreign Studies University noted: "These events prove globalization remains vital. China’s role as a trade anchor continues delivering mutual benefits."
Strategic Confidence in Chinese Supply Chains
Sonia Ben Behe, General Manager of French retail firm Dinova, revealed: "We’ve tested alternatives, but China’s ecosystem remains unmatched in scale and sophistication." U.S. exhibitor Chris Arthan added that tariffs haven’t diminished China’s indispensable position in global supply networks.
Luxury Brands Bet on Consumption Growth
CICPE witnessed aggressive expansion from international premium brands. The UK doubled its exhibition space ahead of its 2025 Guest of Honor role, while LVMH and Kering Group showcased offerings tailored to China’s youthful luxury consumers. "Chinese buyers are younger and more digitally savvy than Western counterparts – this defines our innovation strategy," said DFS China President Nancy Liu.
Policy Momentum Fuels Optimism
Siemens Energy’s Yao Zhenguo highlighted opportunities from Hainan’s Free Trade Port development, emphasizing cross-border industrial collaboration. Customs data showing 1.3% year-on-year Q1 2025 import-export growth reinforces expert views that China’s high-standard opening-up provides critical stability amid global protectionism.
