Alila’s Clifftop Gem Opens on Zhuhai Island

China Welcomes First Alila Resort on Dramatic Island Cliff

The Alila Zhuhai Dong’ao Island Resort, China’s only clifftop island hotel under the luxury Alila brand, officially opened its doors on June 15. Located on the southern tip of Dong’ao Island near Zhuhai, the property combines cutting-edge design with undisturbed natural landscapes, offering panoramic views of the South China Sea.

Developed through a partnership between Gree Group, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and international architects ZNA|泽碧克 and Horizontal Line Design, the 30,000-square-meter resort features wave-inspired architecture that mirrors the surrounding cliffs. Its undulating roof structure creates a striking visual dialogue with the rugged coastline below.

Boosting Premium Tourism

Kang Hong, Gree Group’s Party Secretary and Chairman, stated the project strengthens their portfolio of high-end island properties, creating 'a cohesive chain of distinctive luxury destinations.' Wanshan District’s Li Juan emphasized the resort’s role in transforming ecological assets into tourism drivers, shifting from resource-based to value-focused development.

Yu Deli, Hyatt’s Asia Pacific President, highlighted this as Alila’s third Greater China property and first island resort nationwide. The hotel aims to attract discerning travelers through curated cultural experiences and adventure activities like coral reef exploration and cliffside meditation sessions.
