Malaysian business leader Jeffrey Ng has highlighted significant opportunities for technological cooperation between Malaysia and the Chinese mainland, particularly in 5G networks and artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking to CGTN anchor Lincoln Humphries at the 5th China International Consumer Products Expo in Hainan, Ng underscored the role of innovation in driving economic growth across Asia.
As vice president of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce, Ng emphasized that partnerships in advanced technologies could spur job creation and digital infrastructure development. “Shared expertise in 5G deployment and AI applications can position both nations as leaders in ASEAN’s digital transformation,” he said, pointing to Hainan’s expo as a platform for cross-border dialogue.
The event, attended by businesses and policymakers from over 40 countries and regions, also spotlighted sustainable investment frameworks. Ng urged small and medium enterprises to leverage Malaysia’s strategic position in Southeast Asia to access the Chinese mainland’s tech ecosystem.
Analysts suggest such collaborations align with broader ASEAN ambitions to build secure regional supply chains while fostering inclusive growth. With bilateral trade exceeding $100 billion annually, tech-driven initiatives may further strengthen Malaysia-China economic ties.
