Hainan Province's economic transformation over the past two decades has captured international attention, with Ireland\u2019s top envoy to China urging global businesses to seize opportunities in the region. Nicholas O'Brien, Ambassador of Ireland to China, commended Hainan's development trajectory during an interview at the Hainan Expo 2025, emphasizing its growing appeal to foreign investors.
The ambassador noted that several Irish companies have already established operations in Hainan, drawn by its strategic position as a free trade port and gateway to Asian markets. "Hainan's economic potential and offering are very good," O'Brien told CGTN, adding that the province's focus on innovation, sustainable industries, and trade-friendly policies aligns with global business priorities.
"We would certainly encourage people to look at Hainan as a destination for investment and trade."
Hainan's GDP growth has consistently outpaced national averages, driven by tourism, technology, and duty-free retail sectors. Analysts suggest the province's expanding infrastructure and preferential policies could reshape supply chains across Southeast Asia.
