A new publication spotlighting Zhejiang Province's economic and social development was unveiled in Beijing on Thursday, offering international readers fresh insights into China's modernization strategies. Titled China's Development in the New Era – The Zhejiang Experience, the book was jointly released by Foreign Languages Press and Zhejiang International Communication Center.
Penned by David W. Ferguson, FLP's honorary English chief editor, the 60,000-word work combines firsthand observations and interviews to analyze Zhejiang's thriving private sector, digital innovation ecosystem, and green development initiatives. Through vivid stories of local entrepreneurs and residents, Ferguson illustrates how the coastal province has become a blueprint for sustainable growth.
During the launch event, Ferguson shared behind-the-scenes accounts of his research across Zhejiang's business hubs like Yiwu and tech centers including Kecheng District. “This isn’t just about economic numbers,” he emphasized. “It’s about real people driving change through innovation and resilience.”
Attendees including international students from Beijing universities received early copies of the book, which officials described as a bridge for global audiences to understand China's development philosophy. A complementary multimedia series titled Decode China: David Ferguson's Storytelling was also announced, aiming to leverage cross-media collaboration to share China's modernization narratives.
