China has expressed its desire for the European Union (EU) to engage in concrete actions and meet halfway regarding the ongoing anti-subsidy case against Chinese electric vehicles. He Yadong, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, conveyed this message during a press conference on Thursday.
He highlighted that the case has sparked considerable concern across various sectors in both China and Europe. In a subsequent video call with China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, Ola Kallenius, president of the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association and chairman of Mercedes-Benz Group AG's board of management, emphasized that the European automotive industry supports a swift resolution of differences through dialogue and consultation.
He Yadong further stated that China has continuously endeavored to promote dialogue and consultation, urging the European side to consider the voices of industry stakeholders in their discussions. He emphasized the importance of pragmatism and balance, urging both parties to acknowledge each other's legitimate concerns and collaborate to facilitate productive negotiations.
Highlighting the significance of China-EU relations, the spokesperson remarked that the bilateral economic and trade cooperation is complementary and mutually beneficial, fostering a strong symbiotic relationship. This year marks the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations, and He Yadong affirmed China's willingness to expand cooperation in green industries, including electric vehicles, and to address trade frictions through constructive dialogue and consultation.
