China’s Auto Sales Rise in January Amid Private Enterprises Symposium

China's automotive sector is off to a strong start in 2025, with January figures showing a steady increase in both production and sales. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), passenger vehicle production reached 2.15 million units, while sales totaled 2.13 million units. This marks a year-on-year growth of 3.3 percent in production and 0.8 percent in sales.

New energy vehicles (NEVs) have been a significant driver of this growth. In January, NEV production and sales stood at 1.015 million and 944,000 units respectively, representing a robust year-on-year increase of 29 percent in both areas. NEVs now account for 38.9 percent of total new vehicle sales, highlighting the sector's expanding footprint in China's automotive market.

Export figures also reflect positive momentum, with China exporting a total of 470,000 vehicles in January, an increase of 6.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Notably, NEV exports surged by 49.6 percent year-on-year, reaching 150,000 units. This surge underscores China's growing influence in the global NEV market.

In conjunction with these developments, a symposium on private enterprises was held in Beijing, bringing together industry leaders from various sectors, including the new energy and automotive industries. Participants shared their insights into development strategies and discussed experiences in expanding into overseas markets. The symposium provided a platform for collaborative dialogue, aiming to foster innovation and drive sustainable growth within China's private enterprise landscape.

As China continues to bolster its automotive and NEV sectors, the combination of increased production, rising sales, and expanding exports signals a promising outlook for the industry. The ongoing support and strategic initiatives discussed at the symposium are expected to further enhance China's position in the global automotive market.
