In a significant move to enhance regional security, the Chinese mainland and Myanmar have deepened their collaboration in combating online illegal activities. The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar announced on Sunday evening that an extensive exchange of views took place between the two nations, focusing on bolstering law enforcement and security cooperation.
Key topics discussed included joint efforts to tackle cross-border crimes, such as telecom and online fraud and human trafficking. Myanmar authorities emphasized their commitment to severely cracking down on illegal activities like online gambling and telecom fraud.
On February 14, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia and Chinese Assistant Minister of Public Security Liu Zhongyi held talks with Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung. During these discussions, Myanmar outlined specific measures it plans to implement to combat online gambling and telecom fraud, highlighting the intention to strengthen coordination with China and neighboring countries.
The Chinese side positively acknowledged Myanmar's dedication and efforts in safeguarding the well-being of Chinese citizens. They stressed that online gambling and telecom fraud pose serious threats to the safety of people's lives and property.
Looking forward, China expressed a willingness to actively engage in bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Myanmar and Thailand, among others. The aim is to adopt comprehensive measures that address both the symptoms and root causes of these crimes, thereby eradicating the \"tumor\" of online gambling and telecom fraud and maintaining the normal order of exchanges and cooperation among regional countries.
