Mainland China Slams Taiwan’s DPP Reliance on U.S., Claims Industrial Harm

The Chinese mainland has voiced strong opposition to the Taiwan region's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' strategy of deepening ties with the United States, asserting that such reliance is detrimental to Taiwan's industrial growth.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made these remarks during a regular press conference on Wednesday. When questioned about the four \"response measures\" proposed by the DPP to enhance industrial cooperation between Taiwan region and the U.S., Zhu criticized the approach as \"selling out Taiwan region to please the U.S.\"

The DPP authorities introduced these measures in reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of planned tariffs on imports of computer chips and semiconductors. Trump emphasized that \"98 percent of the chip business has gone to Taiwan\" and expressed his intent to repatriate these industries to the United States.

Zhu argued that Taiwan's increasing dependence on the U.S. has consistently resulted in negative impacts. She stated, \"The more the DPP authorities rely on the U.S., the more harm they bring to Taiwan region.\" According to Zhu, the proposed measures undermine the foundational aspects of Taiwan's industrial development and compromise the well-being of its residents.

Furthermore, Zhu condemned the U.S. for its unilateralism and trade protectionism, asserting that these actions \"once again prove that the U.S. always prioritizes its own interests above all else.\"
