The 2025 Spring Festival holiday in China, spanning from January 28 to February 4, experienced a remarkable surge in both tourism and consumer spending.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a staggering 501 million domestic trips were made during the eight-day holiday, representing a 5.9 percent increase compared to the previous year. This uptick underscores the growing domestic travel enthusiasm among Chinese residents.
In addition to the rise in travel, total domestic spending during the festival reached an impressive 677 billion yuan ($93 billion), marking a 7 percent year-on-year growth. This significant boost in consumption highlights the robust economic activity driven by the Spring Festival, a key period for retail and services sectors across the country.
The Spring Festival, traditionally a time for family reunions and celebrations, continues to play a pivotal role in stimulating China's domestic economy. The increased travel and spending reflect not only the cultural importance of the holiday but also the resilience and dynamism of China's consumer market.
