China Files WTO Complaint Against U.S. Over New Tariffs

In a significant move amid escalating trade tensions, China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) following the United States' announcement of an additional 10 percent tariff on relevant Chinese products. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce disclosed the development on Tuesday, emphasizing China's commitment to safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.

\"The U.S. imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese products has seriously violated WTO rules. This egregious act is typical of unilateralism and trade protectionism,\" the spokesperson stated in response to media inquiries. The Ministry underscored that such actions by the U.S. undermine the rules-based multilateral trading system, erode the foundation of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation, and disrupt the stability of global industrial and supply chains.

The spokesperson highlighted that the United States has repeatedly prioritized unilateralism over multilateralism, a stance that has drawn strong condemnation from the majority of WTO members. \"China firmly opposes the U.S. actions and urges the U.S. side to immediately rectify its wrongdoings,\" they added.

As a staunch supporter and significant contributor to the multilateral trading system, China expressed its readiness to collaborate with other WTO members. \"We are prepared to address the challenges posed by unilateralism and trade protectionism to the multilateral trading system and to safeguard the orderly and stable development of international trade,\" the spokesperson affirmed.
