China Files WTO Complaint Against U.S. Over New Tariffs

Beijing, China — China has officially lodged a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) after the United States announced an additional 10 percent tariff on certain Chinese products, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.

The spokesperson stated that this move aims to protect China's legitimate rights and interests in accordance with WTO rules. Responding to media inquiries, they emphasized that the U.S. imposition of extra tariffs on Chinese goods is a serious violation of WTO regulations and represents a typical case of unilateralism and trade protectionism.

They further elaborated that the U.S. action undermines the multilateral trading system, erodes the foundation of economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States, and disrupts the stability of global industrial and supply chains.

\"The United States has repeatedly prioritized unilateralism over multilateralism, drawing strong condemnation from the majority of WTO members,\" the spokesperson said. \"China firmly opposes the U.S. actions and urges the U.S. side to immediately correct its wrongdoings.\"

As a steadfast supporter and significant contributor to the multilateral trading system, China expressed its readiness to collaborate with other WTO members to address the challenges posed by unilateralism and trade protectionism. The spokesperson added that China is committed to safeguarding the orderly and stable development of international trade.
